ANGEL BISCUITS | |
1 cake yeast or 1 pkg. dry yeast 2 tbsp. warm water 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk 5 c. flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1 scant tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1/3-1/2 c. sugar 1 c. shortening Dissolve yeast in warm water. Mix with buttermilk. Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Add liquid. Mix well and put in refrigerator in a plastic bag and use as needed. Roll out on floured board and cut as biscuits. Dip into melted butter before putting on baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Biscuits are better if allowed to rise 1/2 to 1 hour before baking but may be baked immediately. Roll into balls instead of cutting if desired. |
