EDITH'S BUTTERMILK SUGAR COOKIES | |
MIX AS FOR PIE CRUST: 2 c. white sugar 1 c. shortening 5 c. sifted flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. salt MIX TOGETHER AND ADD: 1 c. thick buttermilk 3 eggs, slightly beaten 2 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. baking soda Chill 1 hour. Roll out about 1/3 at a time on floured board to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with 3 inch cutter. Lightly grease cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake about 15 minutes at 375 degrees until lightly brown. Cool on racks and remove from sheets. This recipe is over 100 years old. |
