CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 3/4 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1/2 c. oil
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. hot coffee
1 c. milk

ICING:

1 1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/4 c. vegetable shortening
4 c. confectioners' sugar
1/4 c. hot coffee (or enough to make mixable)
3 tsp. vanilla

To make cake, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Combine well. Add eggs, oil, vanilla and milk and mix well. Then add hot coffee.

Bake at 350 degrees in a 9 x 13 inch pan or two 8-inch round cake pans. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool.

Combine icing ingredients using enough hot coffee to give it a frosting consistency. Ice cake and allow to set.
