1 column saltines (from a 4-pk. pkg.) 2 sticks butter 1 c. light brown sugar 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate morsels Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Layer saltines on foil lined 15x10 inch pan. Boil butter and sugar for 3 minutes. Pour or spoon butter-sugar mixture over saltines. Bake at 400 degrees for 7 minutes. (Watch carefully.) Remove from the oven and spread the morsels over the top of the cooked saltines. (Using the back of a spoon helps.) Don't let it cook at all before spreading the chocolate. I actually do it right on the open oven door so that the syrup on the crackers is still liquid hot. Cool in the refrigerator, break into pieces, and freeze. No one would guess saltines are at the bottom of it all. And if you'd like, you could use the unsalted top saltines and unsalted butter. They're not exactly the same, but they work. |
