IRISH WHOLE WHEAT BREAD | |
3 lbs. whole wheat flour 3 tsp. salt 1 oz. yeast (dry) or 2 oz. fresh 3 tbsp. molasses or clear honey 2 tbsp. vegetable oil Mix flour and salt in large bowl. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water and molasses. Let stand 15 minutes or until yeast begins to froth. Add to flour mixture, then oil and enough water to make a sticky dough. DO NOT KNEAD. Spoon dough into pans and let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 40 minutes. NOTE: This is a heavy bread. Sunflower seeds, nuts or raisins added to dough is recommended. Freezes well. |
