1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Chocolate chips or M & M's

Mix together shortening and sugar until creamy. Mix in egg. Alternately mix in dry ingredients, milk, and vanilla; mix well after each addition. Add chocolate chips or M & M's if desired. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. These cookies should be soft do NOT overbake.
