BAKLAVA
1 lb. filo dough
1 lb. walnuts, chopped
1 lb. butter, melted

SYRUP:

1 c. water
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. honey
1/2 lemon
1 lg. cinnamon stick

Make syrup ahead enough to cool before making Baklava. Mix water, cinnamon stick, lemon and sugar together in saucepan and bring to hard boil, stirring. Let boil 5 minutes. Take off heat and add honey. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In 9 x 13 inch metal baking pan, butter bottom of pan with pastry brush. Layer 6-10 pieces of filo dough only (butter between each piece). Sprinkle thin layer of nuts as you continue layering filo and butter (about 3 layer) finish butter and filo until done.

Cut in diamond shape before cooking. When putting pan in oven, turn oven down to 325 degrees and cook for 1 1/2 hours or until golden brown. As soon as pan comes out, pour syrup evenly over baklava. Let cool and serve.
