MAWMAW'S APPLE CRISP | |
This is the best recipe I know of for apple crisp. My grandmother started making this in the 1940's. It does not need oatmeal. Once you broil the topping after baking it will be brown and amazing! She served it to us warm with real whipped cream. 1 (21 oz.) can Comstock apples 3/4 cup water 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups brown sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. allspice 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter 1/4 tsp. salt Melt butter in skillet, add flour, spices and sugar. Mix with a fork. Add water to apples. Sprinkle skillet mixture over the apples in oblong Pyrex dish and press down with fingers. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Place under the broiler for a few minutes to crisp the topping. Submitted by: LJR |
