HEAVENLY DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 sqs. melted chocolate
2 1/4 c. cake flour
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
3 egg whites, beaten

Cream shortening and sugar. Add rest of ingredients and beat for two minutes. Add whites of eggs lightly. Fit pans with waxed paper and bake at 350 degrees.

FROSTING FOR DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE:

1 sq. melted chocolate
4 tbsp. cream
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, beaten
2 c. powdered sugar

Mix chocolate and cream. Heat until melted. Add rest of ingredients. Beat well. Let stand five minutes. Beat and frost cake.
