FAMILY GINGERBREAD 
1/2 c. shortening (butter and Crisco mixed)
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. hot water

In electric mixer, cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and molasses. Then add dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add hot water and beat until smooth. Bake in a shallow greased pan at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
