CHERRY NUT SQUARES 
1/2 lb. (2 sticks) butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can cherry pie filling

Cream butter, sugar and eggs. Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Mix well.

Spread 2/3 of batter in greased 9x13-inch pan. Spread cherry pie filling over batter. Drop by tablespoonful the remaining batter over the pie filling. Bake 40-45 minutes at 350°F.

Variation: May use blueberry pie filling.
