2 cups flour 3 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbsp sugar 1 tbsp butter 2-3 cups milk 1 cup chopped figs or preserves and 1 egg Sift together the first four ingredients; add softened butter and mix in very lightly; add slowly just enough milk to make a soft dough. Dust a pastry board or silicone sheet with flour and roll out dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut into squares and on each piece put one tablespoon of fig or preserves. Brush edges with cold milk and fold like an envelope. Press edges together. Brush tops with egg beaten with one tablespoon milk and one teaspoon sugar. Bake until golden brown (about 20 minutes) in a preheated 375°F oven. |
