DATE NUT BREAD 
2 c. buttermilk pancake mix
3/4 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
2 tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. water
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
3/4 c. dates, finely chopped

In large mixer bowl, blend together all ingredients except nuts and dates. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed. Fold in nuts and dates. Pour into greased and floured 9"x5"x3" loaf pan. Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 1 loaf.
