PUFF PASTRY BARS 
LAYER 1:

1/2 c. butter, soft
1 c. sifted flour
2 tbsp. ice water

Like pie dough, mix the butter with the flour; add ice water and mix. Form into 2 balls and put each ball into a long strip (about 11x3 inch) on a large ungreased cookie sheet.

LAYER 2:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. water
1 tsp. almond extract
1 c. flour
3 eggs, beaten into mixture, one at a time

Heat butter and water to a rolling boil in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat and quickly add flour and almond extract. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball (about 1 minute). Remove from heat and beat in eggs-one at a time-until smooth and glossy. Divide mixture in half and spread on evenly over each strip. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes or until brown. Cool.

FROSTING:

1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 to 2 tbsp. water

Mix together-frost-sprinkle with chopped nuts and cherries.
