STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE 
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. Crisco
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. butter
Powdered sugar

Cream together sugar and Crisco. Add egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately to sugar mixture with milk. Blend well, but not too much. Pour into 8 inch cake pan that has been greased and floured. Dot with butter and sprinkle with a little powdered sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Top with strawberries when cold.
