EMILY HEROT'S VANILLA HORNS | |
1/2 lb. sweet butter 2 c. flour Pinch of salt 1 tsp. sugar 6 egg yolks, beaten 2 tsp. vanilla FILLING: 1/2 lb. powdered sugar 1/2 lb. ground nuts 6 egg whites, beaten until very stiff (until dry) Mix together and put 1 teaspoon in center of each rolled out ball. Mix flour, sugar, salt and butter as for pie dough. Add 6 beaten egg yolks and 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Work well with hands into a smooth dough. Cut dough into four pieces (so that you get 15 balls out of each piece). Form small balls (size of a marble). Place balls on cookie sheet and chill overnight. In the morning roll out each ball like you would if you were making noodles (roll out only a few balls at a time). Put 1 teaspoon of filling in center of dough, turning in on both sides and roll into the shape of a small horn. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake in 375 degree oven for 15 minutes. |
