1 3/4 c. cornmeal
4 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. chopped onion (optional)
1 egg, beaten
2 c. boiling water

Mix dry ingredients. Add onion and beaten egg. Pour boiling water over this mixture. Mix until smooth. Add more water if necessary. Drop by spoonfuls into deep, hot fat.
