SPICED PEARS 
4 (8 1/2 oz.) cans pear halves, undrained
3/4 c. cider vinegar
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. red food coloring
1 tbsp. mixed pickling spice

Drain pears, reserving juice. Place pears in 2 quart bowl and set aside. Combine reserved juice, vinegar, sugar and food coloring in a saucepan. Tie pickling spice in a cheesecloth bag, add spice bag to liquid mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Pour mixture over pears. Cover and chill for several hours. Discard spice bag before serving. Yields 8 servings.
