SOURDOUGH STARTER 
1 tsp. active dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tsp. salt
2 c. all-purpose flour
Warm water

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, vinegar, salt and flour. Add enough warm water to make a creamy batter. Put in a bowl; cover and let stand in a warm place for 2 or 3 days. It will become bubbly and have a sour odor. Makes 2 1/2 cups.

SOURDOUGH BREAD:

2 c. starter
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Water
Milk

Start making dough 8 hours before you plan to bake your bread. Add 2 cups starter to 2 cups flour. Add butter, sugar, and salt and mix well. Add more flour until dough is stiff. Shape into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Grease top of dough. Let stand in a warm place for 4-6 hours. Dissolve soda in water and knead into dough. Put in greased loaf pan. Brush milk on top. Cover and let rise until doubled. Bake in 400 degree oven for 45 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.
