SWEET PICKLES 
8 lb. cucumbers
2 c. lime
2 c. salt
2 oz. alum

Slice cucumbers and cover in lime water in plastic container. Let soak overnight. Next morning wash and soak in salt water for 4 hours. Then wash and soak in clear COLD water for 2 hours. Next drain and put in alum water in cooker and bring to a boil. Next dip in clear water and drain.

SYRUP MIXTURE:

8 c. vinegar
16 c. sugar (or 5 b.)
1/4 box mixed spice or allspice
1 tsp. turmeric
6 to 8 drops green food coloring (optional)

Mix syrup ingredients together and add to the cucumbers. Bring to boil and simmer 30 minutes. Pack in clean hot jars and lids. Jars will seal as they cool.
