APPLE DUMPLING 
2 bottles (7 oz. each) 7-Up
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 c. butter
6 medium apples
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
6 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. butter

Combine 7-Up, 1 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and nutmeg in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Add 1/4 cup butter. Set aside. Pare and core apples, leave whole or slice. Sift flour, salt and baking powder, cut in shortening. Add milk all at once and stir until moistened. Roll out and cut into 6 to 7-inch squares. Place apple in center of each square. Combine the 6 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of mixture on each apple. Dot with butter. Fold corners of pastry to center and pinch edges together. Arrange in a 9 x 13-inch pan. Pour syrup into pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
