GERMAN BEEF IN BEER
2 lbs. lean chuck or lean round steak
1/4 c. flour
Salt & pepper
6 slices bacon, cut into sm. pieces
2 onions, chopped
1 1/2 c. dark beer (Augsburger dark is good)
1 c. water
Dash of ground cloves and nutmeg
4 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. parsley, chopped
1 tsp. dried thyme

Cut meat into cubes, roll in flour. Place bacon in fry pan and fry a few minutes. Add pieces of meat and brown. Add onions and cook 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to a stew pot or crock pot. Blend in beer, water, spices, vinegar, brown sugar, and seasonings. Bring to a boil and cook until a thickened sauce. Reduce heat, cover pan, and cook 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until meat is tender. Serve with dumplings or potatoes and garnish with additional parsley. Using a crock pot lengthens the cooking time.
