GRANDMA MORTHAM'S GINGER BREAD
CAKE
 
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. white sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
1 c. hot water
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. salt

Cream sugars, butter and shortening, egg and molasses. Sift flour and spices, add alternately with hot water to mixture. Bake at 350 degrees until top springs back.
