SHOVEL STEAK 
2 1/2 lb. lean beef rum, sliced thin or thinly sliced round steak
Salt & pepper to taste
2 lbs. onions, thinly sliced
Flour
Brown sugar
2 tbsp. tomato paste
1 qt. beer

Season meat with salt and pepper and saute in butter. Remove meat and saute onions, adding butter if needed.

In a casserole or Dutch oven, layer onions and meat, sprinkling each layer with a little flour and brown sugar. Cook on top of stove for 10 minutes then add tomato paste and beer. Bring to a boil. Bake, covered in 350 degree oven for 1 1/2 hours.
