DIAMOND APPLESAUCE BROWNIES 
Orange complements apple flavor in cookies and adds spark to the simple glaze.

6 tbsp. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 beaten egg
1/2 c. applesauce
1 tsp. shredded orange peel
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. California walnuts

In saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar. Cool and stir over medium heat until butter melts; remove from heat. Beat in egg, applesauce, orange peel, and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda; stir into applesauce mixture. Stir in walnuts. Spread in greased 15x10x1 inch jelly roll pan. Bake in moderate 350 degree oven about 15 minutes.

While warm, top with Orange Glaze.

ORANGE GLAZE:

1 1/2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt
About 2 tbsp. orange juice

Mix together. Use enough orange juice to make mixture of glaze consistency. Cut in diamonds or bars.
