Fresh apples 1/2 c. white sugar 1 diced lemon 2 day old loaf white bread Melted butter Light brown sugar Quarter enough apples to fill a 2 quart casserole. Cook the apples in a stew pan using 1/2 cup white sugar and 1 diced lemon. Simmer apples until half done and put into a casserole. Take a 2 day old loaf of white bread and cut off crust, then cut slice into 4 squares each. Dip each square into melted butter. Then pat in light brown sugar on all sides of squares. Place the squares overlapping on apples for 2/3 of each square until whole casserole is covered. Place casserole in 275 degree oven for 1 hour. Be sure to use light brown sugar, if not, the top will be black and the bread soggy. |
