DATE SQUARES 
FILLING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. chopped nuts

OAT MIXTURE:

1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. quick oats
3/4 c. butter, melted

Cook chopped dates, sugar water and cornstarch until dates are tender. Let mixture cool, then add nuts.

Mix oat mixture with fork until well blended. Put half of oat mixture in 9x15 inch pan. Press and pat firmly. Spread date mixture on oat mixture. Add remaining oat mixture to top, press firmly. Bake at 350 degrees until light brown, 35 minutes.
