COCOA FUDGE CAKE 
CAKE:

1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 lg. eggs

FROSTING:

1 c. sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. corn syrup
1/8 tsp. salt
1 1/2-2 c. sifted confectioners' sugar

Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Add shortening, milk and vanilla. Beat 300 strokes. Add eggs. Beat 300 strokes. Bake in greased and floured pans. (Layer 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees; large single pan 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees.)

Frosting: Mix first 2 ingredients in a saucepan. Add other ingredients except confectioners' sugar; boil 3 minutes. Cool. Beat in confectioners' sugar. Let stand until spreadable.
