1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. cold mashed potatoes
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour, sifted
3/4 c. nuts, chopped

Cream together first 6 ingredients, add eggs mix well. Mix the soda with buttermilk, add flour to egg mixture, add nuts. Bake in 2 greased 8-inch pans at 350 degrees 30 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/4 c. butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
4 1/2 tbsp. milk
2 c. powdered sugar

Melt butter, add brown sugar. Cook about 2 minutes. Add milk. Cool to lukewarm; add to the powdered sugar.
