SOUR BEEF AND DUMPLINGS 
3-5 lb. chuck roast
3-4 bottles Mrs. Minnick's sauerbraten mix
Brown sugar to taste
15-20 ginger snaps

Dredge beef (whole pieces) in flour. Brown in large Dutch oven in small amount of oil on both sides. Add 3-4 bottles of Mrs. Minnick's to Dutch oven to cover meat. Cook slowly (simmer 1-2 hours). Break meat apart as it cooks so it is stringy. Then add brown sugar to taste and cook a while longer. Crumble up ginger snaps and add to thicken.

Then make one package Panni Potato Dumpling mix; add dumplings to pot and cook 25 minutes.

As of 2020 Mrs. Minnick's IS OUT OF BUSINESS. I tried every Giant store in Baltimore and all were out of stock!!! INFO ONLINE IS OUT OF DATE! I now have to make a homemade marinade.

Been making SB for 55 years, my Dads recipe. Marinate for 2-3 days. 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar to cover the beef, coat with sugar, thick sliced onion, and cheese cloth filled with 1 jar of pickling spice. When marinate is complete, bring to boil, then turn down to low and cook for 6 hours covered. Separate juice, add ginger snaps, bring to boil, it will be thick, then put your beef in the gravy.
