DESSERT HARD SAUCE 
3/4 c. sugar
3 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. butter
2 c. water

Mix dry ingredients together, then the water, stirring all the time. When it has thickened, add the butter and vanilla. The sauce should look a little yellow. Keep it covered until you are ready to use. Flavor with rum or whatever you would like at Christmas time.
