LUCI JOHNSON NUGENT'S FAVORITE
CHOCOLATE CAKE
 
1 stick butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
1 c. hot water, divided in 2 portions
1 tsp. baking soda

Melt chocolate in double boiler first. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Sift flour and add alternately with milk, while mixing, to sugar-egg mixture. Then add 1/2 cup hot water to melted chocolate.

Put other 1/2 cup water in a pan and bring to a boil. (This is most important.) To this add soda and immediately add this to chocolate. Pour chocolate mixture into the batter; add vanilla and stir in well. Bake in greased and floured loaf pan at 325 degrees. Cake will pull away from sides of pan when done.
