AUNT ALTA'S ORANGE SLICE FRUIT
CAKE
 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
4 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 lb. dates, diced
2 c. angel flake coconut
2 c. walnuts, chopped
1 lb. pkg. orange candy slices, diced
3 1/2 c. flour

In large bowl toss dates, coconut, walnuts, orange slices and flour until well mixed. Set aside.

In large bowl cream together sugar and butter. Add eggs. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk and add alternately with fruit mixture to sugar mixture. Line heavy loaf pan with brown sugar. Pour in cake mixture. Bake at 300 degrees for 2 1/2 hours.

GLAZE:

1 sm. can frozen orange juice
1/2 c. brown sugar

Combine juice and sugar in small saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour over cooled fruit cake.
