CANDY ORANGE SLICE CAKE | |
2 sticks butter 2 c. sugar 4 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 c. buttermilk 4 c. flour 2 tbsp. grated orange rind 1 c. candy orange slices, cut into cubes - gumdrop type 1/2 lb. cut up dates 2 c. chopped nuts 1 c. coconut Cream sugar and butter; add eggs and beat. Flour orange slices and dates in 1 cup of the flour. Add dry ingredients that have been sifted together, alternately with milk. Fold in other goodies and pour into a greased and floured tube cake pan. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees. Glaze with 2 cups white sugar and 1 cup orange juice. Cook until sugar is melted and comes to a good bubble. Punch holes in cake with ice pick and pour glaze over cake. Do not remove from pan until glaze has soaked in cake well. After the cake has set awhile and it looks as though all the juice has been absorbed turn cake pan over. Better the second day. |
