SOURDOUGH BISCUITS | |
1/2 c. starter 1 c. milk 1 c. unsifted flour Mix together. Allow to stand in a warm place for 4 to 8 hours. Then add: 3/4 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 pkg. active dry yeast Mix together and turn out on a floured surface. Knead lightly 8 to 10 times. Roll out to about 1 3/4 inch thickness. Cut into biscuits and dip each in a mixture of half butter and half salad oil. This mixture should be warm and the biscuit should be completely coated. (You may also use warm bacon grease or straight salad oil.) Place in a pan. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes. Then bake in a 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes. NOTE: Biscuits should be touching in the baking pan so that they will rise rather than spread out. |
