MONTE CRISTO | |
4 tbsp. butter 3 slices firm bread 3 slices cold turkey or chicken 2 slices Monterey Jack, Swiss cheese or cheddar cheese 1 egg, lightly beaten 1/4 c. milk Pinch salt Butter Butter 2 slices bread on 1 side only, butter remaining slice on both sides. Lay meat on buttered slice, add doubly buttered slice and cheese. Top with last slice, buttered side down. Press together lightly. Trim crusts, if desired. Mix egg, milk and salt. Dip sandwich into milk mixture, coating edges as well as sides. Heat 2 tbsp. butter in skillet and brown sandwich over moderate low heat about 2 minutes each side. Makes 1 sandwich (egg mixture almost enough for 2). For Monte Carlo use sliced ham. |
