ICE BOX BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
6 qts. sliced cucumbers (med. size)
4 c. sugar
2 onions, sliced
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. mustard seeds
2 tbsp. alum
1 tbsp. turmeric
1 1/2 qts. vinegar

Bring to boil all of the above but cucumbers and onions. Set aside to cool. When cool, pour over onions and cucumbers in very large bowl. Let stand 24 hours. Then place in jars and keep in ice box until used up.
