FIVE HOUR BREAD | |
2 c. scalded milk (big pot) 2 tbsp. butter stick butter 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 pkg. or 1 cake yeast 1/2 c. lukewarm milk (sm. pot) 6-8 c. all-purpose flour Heat scalded milk and lukewarm milk. Add sugar, shortening and salt to scalded milk. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk and add to scalded milk. Add about 6 cups of flour. Stir. Put mixture on board and knead until firm. Form a ball. Put in large pot covering with towel and put in oven to rise (about 3 hours). Punch down, knead lightly, form into 2 loaves. Place in greased pans. If desired, you can make half rolls (place on cookie sheet) and 1 loaf. Let rise 1 hour in oven. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour. |
