GOLD CAKES 
3/4 c. butter
8 egg yolks, beaten
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. milk
1 1/4 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks and continue creaming. Sift dry ingredients, three times; add alternately with liquids to creamed mixture. Beat until smooth. Pour into cake pans lined with waxed paper. Bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees, for 18 to 20 minutes. Makes 3 (9") layers.
