IDA'S CHEWY OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. quick-cooking oatmeal
1 c. coconut, coarsely chopped
1 c. nuts, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift flour. Add baking powder, soda and salt. Sift again and set aside.

In a large bowl, cream butter. Gradually add sugar and brown sugar, creaming well. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Blend in the sifted dry ingredients. Stir in oatmeal, coconut and chopped nuts.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Store cool cookies in tightly covered container.
