AUTUMN APPLE TART 
1 1/2 c. flour
5 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. grated lemon
6 tbsp. butter, chilled
6 tbsp. shortening, chilled
3 tbsp. ice water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 to 2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered
3 tbsp. melted butter
1 tbsp. sugar and 1/8 tsp. cinnamon, mixed together

Combine flour, sugar, salt, and lemon. Add butter and shortening and cut in to resemble coarse meal. Add ice water and vanilla. Mix well until dough gathers into a ball. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and lightly flour baking sheet.

Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out 6 circles, 4 inches in diameter and place on sheet.

Cut apples into thin slices and arrange in spiral pattern on crusts. Brush with melted butter and bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven; brush with butter again and sprinkle with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Bake for 10 more minutes.
