HAMBURGER STUFFED FRENCH BREAD | |
1 loaf French bread 1 1/2 lb. ground beef 3/4 c. onion, chopped 3/4 tsp. oregano 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 1 1/2 c. bread crumbs 1/4 tsp. dry mustard 1/3 c. parsley, chopped 1 egg, beaten 1 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese 1 stick butter, melted Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut loaf of bread in half; cut off ends. With fork, hollow out center of bread, leaving a thick crust as a shell; reserve 1 1/2 cups crumbs. In a skillet, combine beef, onion, oregano, salt and pepper and brown. Remove from heat; add crumbs, mustard, parsley, egg, and cheese; blend thoroughly. Fill loaf with mixture; replace cut ends and secure with wooden picks. Brush with butter; wrap in aluminum foil. Bake 10 minutes. Loosen foil and continue to bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes. Slice and serve with green beans and a salad. |
