1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. syrup (should be dark)
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. ginger
1 c. hot water

Cream shortening, sugar, egg, syrup. Mix flour and soda, spices, then add 1 cup hot water. Bake in 13 x 11 inch cake pan about 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
