PRIZE CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
4 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
5 eggs
2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together flour, soda, salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Beat after each addition. Bake in 3 paper-lined pans, at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
