1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour

Mix and chill dough. Roll out to about 1/4" thick on a floured table. Cut with cookie cutters in desired shapes and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with colored sugar. Bake at 350 degrees until brown around the edges.
