1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. sour or buttermilk (3/4 c. milk plus 1/4 c. vinegar)
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Hershey's cocoa
2 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda (add to water)

Mix all ingredients except water and soda; mix with electric mixer. Add water and soda mixture and continue mixing. Bake at 350 degrees until toothpick comes out clean.
