OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING | |
4 (or 5) c. bread crumbs, about 12 slice white bread 2 c. scalding hot milk 1/3 c. butter 2 eggs 3/4 c. sugar 1 scant tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. raisins (opt.) May need a little more depending on if the bread needs it to be thoroughly moistened. Break and tear bread into pieces. Place in a large mixing bowl. Mix into the bread, the sugar, cinnamon, salt and raisins. Place the butter into the mixture, cutting it into pieces. Pour over the bread mixture, the scalding hot milk. Stir all together until the butter has melted and is mixed in. Beat the eggs slightly and mix in with other ingredients. The total mixture should be a little sloshy looking. Pour the mixture into a well greased baking casserole (glass or Pyrex). Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until lightly browned and puffed up. (Loaf may fall after it has cooled off awhile.) Serve with your favorite chocolate sauce. Some people like lemon sauce. |
