APPLE RUM DUM 
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 egg
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 1/2 c. chopped crisp apples
1/3 to 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat. Sift together the dry ingredients and add to first mixture with apples and nuts. Use 2 pie tins or an 8x8 square pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 35-40 minutes. May be made a day ahead.

SAUCE:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. cream or half and half
1/4 c. butter

Boil 3 minutes and add 1 teaspoon rum flavorings.
