HICKORY NUT CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. sweet milk
2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking powder

Put all in bowl and beat, beat beat. Then fold in 4 stiffly beaten egg whites and 3/4 cup nutmeats. Bake at 350 degrees about 25 minutes.

FROSTING:

3 tbsp. butter
6 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. brown sugar

Bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar to spreading consistency and 1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring. Sprinkle with nuts.
