NAVY BEAN SOUP 
1 c. dried Navy beans
1 oz. chicken base
Pinch of chili powder
3 whole cloves
1 oz. chopped green pepper
Salt to taste

Soak beans in cold water to cover beans, 3 to 4 hours. Let ingredients simmer 3 to 4 hours, adding water as necessary. Mix together 2 teaspoons flour, pinch of pepper and 1/2 cup water. Blend into smooth paste, stirring into soup. Simmer additional 1/2 hour or until tender.
